This was photographed at around 2500m on Mount Mangrt in Slovenia, which is the highest peak in the Alps. To the left are the Itialian Alps, in the centre are the Slovenian Alps and to the right are the Austrian Alps. They are all pretty much the same thing, except for an imaginary line on a map that divides these Alps into 3 seperate countries. It's a little way down from the summit purely for compositional reasons. This was taken after the sun had gone down and the colours were constanly changing.
Changing from a clear blue sky, through honey tones then into the very wild orange and coral colours. It was almost as if there were 3 separate sunsets all combined into one lush evening's shoot! I have a number of images using different compostion and at different point of the dusk light that I'll be naming the same but in a series (this is number III). These colours are pretty much straight out of the camera with very little adjustment. But I had to merge several exposures together to correctly record the detail and dynamic range. I have noticed that my Canon 40D renders more punchier and colourfull files. I guess it's 14 bit processing is having an effect here. So there's a little "camera interpretation" going on as well. The 5d's files are a little closer to my minds eye of the event.

I used my 135mm f2, which I mated to a Sigma 1.4x TC to give me 189mm, which is an equivelant 300mm once I factor the 1.62x crop.

Please view as a full size image, it's really worth it!

Canon EOS 40D, ef 135mm f2 L + 1.4x TC

I really love the lack of detail in this photo! It almost gives the illusion of being a vector image or something, and I think that's probably very hard to do with a photograph. Lovely!

It's awesome. it also looks like a famous water color.

A classic poster shot.

Interesting how you merged several images to get this. Perhaps you can write a journal entry about the processing sometime
